Editorial Policy

How Plants Care creates and maintains content

Plants Care aims to publish practical, clear, and accurate information for indoor plant owners. This policy explains how content is developed, how sources are used, and where the limits of site guidance begin.

Editorial standards

Each page should answer a specific reader question without adding material simply to increase length. Content should account for meaningful differences between plants and distinguish documented facts, practical care suggestions, and rough starting points. Approximate watering intervals are not presented as a universal schedule, and one symptom is not treated as proof of a single cause.

How content is created

The usual process is to identify a useful topic and search intent, consult authoritative sources, plan the page structure, check key claims, add supporting sources, edit the material, publish it, and revisit it when useful information or sources change. The site does not represent this process as review by a team of botanists, veterinarians, or other professionals.

Sources and research

Plants Care gives preference to university extension programs, botanical gardens, government resources, professional horticultural organisations, veterinary organisations for pet-safety information, scientific publications, and official manufacturer documentation for a specific product. Informal blogs, forums, social posts, and AI-generated summaries are not used as the only support for important claims. Where a profile has been published as indexable, its key care and pet-safety sources are listed on that profile. A separate Sources page is not currently published.

Plant-care recommendations

Plant-care guidance depends on the plant, light, temperature, humidity, season, plant size, pot size and material, drainage, potting mix, and root condition. Watering frequency is only a starting reference. A watering decision should follow a check of the growing medium and the plant's current condition.

Toxicity and pet safety

Toxicity information is checked separately against appropriate veterinary or botanical sources. Plants Care provides general educational information only. If you suspect that an animal has eaten plant material or is unwell, contact a veterinarian or an appropriate animal poison-control service promptly. Site content does not replace veterinary advice.

Corrections and updates

Readers can report a possible error or suggest a correction through Contact. Material may be updated when a substantial error is found, a better source becomes available, or a key claim needs clearer wording. Profile pages may show a last-updated date. An editorial wording change does not necessarily mean that the underlying care recommendation changed.

Authors and reviewers

“Written by” identifies the person or organisation that prepared a page. “Edited by” identifies editorial work on clarity, structure, and consistency. “Reviewed by” is used only when a separate person with relevant qualifications has actually reviewed that material. Plants Care currently uses an organisational Plants Care Editorial Team byline for profile maintenance and does not publish individual contributor biographies or claim independent professional review where it has not occurred.

AI-assisted content

Automated tools may assist with organising information, drafting structure, finding repeated wording, technical editing, or checking data formats. They are not a source of facts. Key claims and their sources must be checked before publication.

Advertising and affiliate relationships

Advertising and affiliate links are not currently enabled. If they are introduced in the future, commercial relationships will be disclosed clearly on the relevant page. Any disclosure will identify that a qualifying purchase may generate a commission, where that statement matches the active programme. Advertising or commission potential will not determine editorial conclusions, and paid placement will not be presented as an independent recommendation.

Any future product material will be researched and selected based on published specifications, documented suitability, and the stated criteria on that page. It may be useful for a particular use case, but Plants Care will not present products as personally tested, guaranteed, or independently proven without supporting evidence. Product availability, specifications, and links may change, so they will be checked before publication and reviewed again when practical.

Limits of this site

Plants Care is for general educational use. Growing conditions vary, and the site cannot guarantee a particular plant outcome or replace advice from a botanist, veterinarian, or another appropriate professional when one is needed.
